FAQs

What exactly is collagen?

Collagen is the most abundant type of protein in our bodies, making up to three quarters of our skin, and one third of the total protein in our bodies. It's pretty important! It has a fibre-like structure which makes connective tissue. This type of tissue connects with other tissues in our body, and is a crucial component in muscles, tendons, skin, cartilage and tendons. It also assists our bodies in cellular processes like immune response and tissue repair.

Why should I take marine collagen?

Collagen decreases as we age, meaning our hair and nails become weaker, our skin becomes thinner and drier, and also starts to sag and wrinkle. Adding a marine collagen peptides supplement to your diet can support collagen production and give you that Jeuneora glow that everyone raves about!

Is marine collagen or bovine collagen better?

When it comes to beauty benefits, marine collagen is the clear winner. Not only is it the same type of collagen that is most abundantly found in our skin (type I), it's also up to 1.5 times more easily absorbed by the body. The marine collagen in our products has been scientifically researched to be effective in doses as low as 2500mg due to its optimum molecular size and high bioavailability. This means it’s more easily absorbed by your body, so you need less of it to get the job done!

How do marine collagen supplements work?

After the age of 20, we begin to produce 1% less collagen in the dermis (a layer in our skin) each year. By the time we hit 40, our collagen and elastin fibres break, thicken, clump together and lose their elasticity, leaving us with wrinkles, fine lines and sagging skin. That’s why things like hydration, sun protection, using quality skincare, and supplementing with marine collagen are so important. Studies have found that marine collagen has a host of benefits for the body. Marine collagen supports skin hydration, collagen production, gut health and also helps decrease the breakdown of existing collagen in the body. Research is still continuing to work out exactly how this magic happens, but the current theory is that the collagen you consume “tells” your body to create more collagen.

What are peptides?

The marine collagen in our products goes through a process called hydrolysis, which is super important to look out for when choosing a collagen supplement! During hydrolysis, large collagen molecules are broken down (via a reaction with water) into smaller molecules that are commonly referred to as peptides. Peptides have a lower molecule size, so they are more easily absorbed by our bodies - and therefor much more efficient than collagen that isn't hydrolysed.
