Gut loving healthy treats using Renew+
January 05, 2018
As you will probably know, one of the benefits of taking a daily dose of collagen is that it is fantastic for supporting a healthy gut. This is because it can help boost your gastric juices and help to restore the strength and health of your mucosal lining. Collagen also contains the amino acids proline and glycine which are essential building blocks for helping to repair damaged intestinal lining.
This is another reason why the use of bone broth from the likes of beef bones or chicken bones is so widely used, especially in the Paleo and Keto community.
But we want to give you some ways to enjoy these benefits with a sweet kick!
We'd love to send a shout out to The Shrinking Violet for her ideas and inspo for some of these recipes and ideas!
These are some popular desserts and sweet treats that we have adapted to include Renew+.
Paleo Perky Nana Pudding
DF, GF, RSF
Once you’ve made this, you can either pop it in the freezer so it sets faster (if you are like us and patience is not a virtue) or you can refrigerate it and wait a little longer. If you leave it in the freezer for too long it becomes a kind of ice-cream that is also delicious. You really can’t lose with this one!
Note: put your can of coconut milk in the fridge overnight. This will make the cream rise to the top and you can then scoop it out and discard the coconut water that’s left over.
Ingredients
- 1 cup coconut milk (full fat, canned) – Scoop out all the cream and discard the water.
- 2 tbsp cocoa powder or raw cacao powder
- 1-2 Tbsp erythritol with stevia (we use Norbu with monk fruit or 100% natural sweetener with stevia by Naturals)
- 1 tsp gelatin (Unsweetened)
- 2 Tbsp boiled water
- 1/2 - 3/4 scoop of Renew+
Method
On a low heat, mix the coconut milk, cocoa, and sweetener to a pan over medium heat and stir with a whisk. Mix the gelatin and water in small bowl. Add the gelatin to the pan and stir until dissolved. Mix in the Renew+, when the mixture is warm and fully mixed, transfer into 3-4 small ramekins or jars.
Place in the fridge for 30-45 minutes (or freezer for faster setting). Top with fruit, Dark chocolate chips, or coconut flakes
Gut Loving Yoghurt with a Collagen Kick
This is not so much a recipe as a simple and easy way to sweeten your yoghurt and pump up the gut goodness!
Simply take a cup of naturally unsweetened yoghurt (either coconut or dairy) - one with lots of probiotics preferably, add a scoop of Renew+ and mix thoroughly.
You can add delicious toppings such as toasted coconut, passionfruit pulp, berries, or even freeze dried (or fresh) pineapple chunks.
Mango and Pineapple Acai Bowls
Acai berries are a rich in antioxidants, which help to ward off the signs and symptoms of ageing! They are gaining more and more popularity in cafes as a breakfast treat, especially as the weather warms up!
If you don't want to go out and buy Acai powder, you can cheat and just use frozen berries and make a smoothie bowl instead!
You can make these with any fruits or toppings that you want, but here's one we found via Fitness Magazine (and adapted) that we thought would work beautifully with Renew+.
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup coconut milk (from the carton, not the can) or other nut milk (or regular milk if you have dairy in your diet)
- 1/2 banana
- 3/4 cup loosely packed kale, chopped
- 1/2 heaping cup frozen mango
- 1/2 heaping cup frozen pineapple
- 1 Acai packet
- 1 scoop Renew+ Marine Collagen Powder
Toppings
- 1/2 cup + 1/4 cup granola, separated
- 1/2 banana, thinly sliced
- 3-4 strawberries, thinly sliced (optional)
- 1/4 cup fresh mango, chopped (or other fruit of your choice)
- 2 teaspoons cacao nibs (usually available at most supermarkets in the health foods section - but skip if these are not your thing!)
- Goji Berries (optional but they are super good for you!)
Method
Choose the bowl that you are going to serve the Acai bowl in, and place it in the freezer (optional, but this will keep the smoothie colder longer).
Prepare your toppings, such as the slicing the strawberries and the half banana. Set aside.
Combine the first 7 ingredients in a high-speed blender, and puree until smooth. You may need to scrape the sides a few times or stir it to break up clumps. This will be a thick smoothie.
Remove the bowl from the freezer and pour 1/4-cup granola into the bottom of the bowl. Gently pour the smoothie on top of the granola (If the smoothie has started to liquefy, you may want to place the blender canister in the freezer for about five minutes before pouring into the bowl). Top with the 1/2 cup of granola and sliced fruit. Sprinkle toppings on and serve immediately!
We hope you get a chance to try out these three 'clean' sweet treats! If you do, and you love them, please let us know by tagging us in your creations on Instagram!
